204 new cases of Coronavirus recorded in Nigeria – 80 in Kano and 45 in Lagos

204 new cases of Coronavirus have been recorded in Nigeria. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, 80 of the new cases were recorded in Kano, 45 in Lagos, 12 in Gombe, 9 in Bauchi, 9 in Sokoto, 7 in Borno, 7 in Edo, 6 in Rivers, 6 in Ogun, 4 in FCT, 4 in Akwa Ibom, 4 in Bayelsa, 3 in Kaduna, 2 in Oyo, 2 in Delta, 2 in Nasarawa, 1 in Ondo and 1 in Kebbi State.  As at Thursday April 30, there are 1932 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, with 58 deaths and 319 recoveries.  Sharing is Caring loading... The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has reacted to report of palm oil stopping the spread of Coronavirus.  The health agency stated that the claim is false and further urged Nigerians to adhere only to guidelines from health authorities. New York state duped of $69million by man who tweeted at Trump claiming he could supply 1450 ventilators

A man who claims to be a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, with no experience or knowledge in government contracting or medical supplies, has reportedly duped New York state of $69million just by tweeting at US President Trump that he could supply 1450 ventilators to help the state of New York in it’s battle against Coronavirus. Yaron Oren-Pines, who is actually an electrical engineer, was paid $47,656 each for 1,450 ventilators by New York state in March after he tweeted at Trump. Trump posted a tweet on March 27 urging American companies to ‘START MAKING VENTILATORS, NOW!’   Oren-Pines, founder of networking solutions company Legasus Networks, then replied to Trump’s Tweet saying: ‘We can supply ICU Ventilators, invasive and noninvasive. FG Orders Civil Servants To Resume Monday

The Federal Government has ordered civil servants from Grade level 14 and above to resume on Monday. In circular by Head of Service of the Federation Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, it said the Federal secretariat complexes have been decontaminated while efforts were ongoing to do same in other public offices. The circular reads: “Further to Mr President’s broadcast on a phased and gradual easing of the lockdown measures occasioned by COVID-19, officers on GL 14 and above and those in essential services are hereby directed to resume work with effect from Monday, 4th of May, 2020 in the first instance.“ Offices are to open three times a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – and close at 2:00pm on each day.” The circular further advised affected officers to limit the number of visitors they receive while hand- washing facilities should be located at every strategic location within their office premises. Ali died in London where he was receiving treatment before eventually succumbing to complications from the coronavirus. Reports indicate Bali had been hospitalized for several weeks due to the coronavirus prior to his death. List of States with COVID-19 deaths in Nigeria

A total of fourteen States have recorded COVID-19 related deaths. As at Wednesday, the number of States with confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria has also increased to thirty-four. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, as of Wednesday night, April 29, confirmed 196 cases of COVID-19 in the country. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1728. However, there have been 307 recoveries and 51 deaths from the deadly virus. On Thursday, compiled the list of fourteen States in Nigeria, with deaths recorded. Tragedy struck on Tuesday evening in Eyenkorin, outskirts of Ilorin, Asa local government area of Kwara state as local vigilante member allegedly shot dead a commercial driver. The vigilance man identified as Sule was said to have been hired by Eyenkorin community. Sule now on the run reportedly killed the commercial driver for refusing to part with a sum N5,000 as bribe. The late driver, known as Idowu, it was gathered was returning from an Ibadan trip allegedly in defiance of the current COVID-19 lockdown order of the state government. Sule and his colleagues were said to have stopped the driver at Eyenkorin area of the metropolis, demanding to be paid the sum of N5,000, which the driver reportedly resisted. UPDATED: Govt offices can open from Monday – FG

Federal offices nationwide can open from May 4 for workers to resume work, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has said. The resumption will be based on specific grade levels, the PTF explained. Also, the banking, construction, construction, manufacturing sectors, as well as food processing companies, will be allowed to open from Monday, the PTF further said. The PTF noted that banks will be allowed to open from 8am to 2pm daily while observing the new restrictions put in place by the government. National Coordinator of the PTF on Covid-19, Dr. Aliyu Sani stated these during the daily briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic. The national coordinator said that temperature test, respiratory hygiene and restriction of gathering of not more than 20 persons will be introduced. President Buhari reportedly appoints dead Ebonyi lawmaker as member, Board Of Federal Character Commission

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a dead former lawmaker from Ebonyi State, Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru, to the board of the Federal Character Commission, SaharaReporters reports. The appointment of the late Okwuru alongside 37 others was contained in a letter Buhari sent to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read out the letter on Tuesday during plenary.  But findings by SaharaReporters has revealed that Okwuru, who once represented Ikwo/Ezza Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, died in February 2020 at the age of 59.  During his lifetime, he served as state auditor of Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Whip of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, before moving to represent his constituency at the National Assembly.  Interestingly, this won’t be the first time President Buhari will be giving appointment to dead people.
