The chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the list will be published in all the state offices of the commission across the country and on the commission’s website. He said this at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Resident Electoral Commissioner in Bayelsa State, Monday Udo on Wednesday. Professor Yakubu also noted that the commission is awaiting the confirmation and appointment of the nominee for Osun State. According to Punch Metro, family sources have said popular gospel musician, Funmi Aragbaye’s husband is dead. Elder Bola Aragbaye reportedly died on Wednesday, aged 77. A release by Mr. Felix Olasoji said Mr. Aragbaye passed on after a brief illness at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, at about 2:30 pm on Wednesday. During his lifetime, he worked at the Nigerian Tribune as a journalist under the supervision of ex-Governor of Lagos State Lateef Jakande. He left Nigerian Tribune in 1967 to join The Sketch Press Limited, where he rose to the position of Editor before a former Governor of Ondo State, late Chief Adekunle Ajasin, appointed him as his Chief Press Secretary in 1981. The late Elder Aragbaye marked his 77th birthday on November 10, 2018. He is survived by his wife, a music icon and National President of Gospel Musicians’ Association of Nigeria, Funmi Aragbaye, children, grandchildren and other family members.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accredited 144 observer groups that will monitor the conduct of the forthcoming general elections in the country. The figure, as published on the commission’s official website, www.inecnigeria.org, comprised 116 domestic and 28 international observer groups. The commission advised all the accredited observers to abide by its code of conduct for election observers. “INEC is pleased to announce the successful applicants to observe the 2019 general elections holding on 16th Feb. 2019 and 2nd March, 2019. “All accredited observers shall abide by the code of conduct for election observers, which is available for download on the INEC website. “INEC reserves the right to cancel and withdraw the accreditation of any organisation if its members or agents breach the code of conduct,’’ the commission said.
