A 14 year old grade nine learner at a high school in Verulam was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after she was found in possession of 24 wrappings of marijuana yesterday morning. At approximately 09:30 Reaction Officers received information that the female scholar was in possession of the narcotics and intended on selling it to other pupils during their lunch break. Acting on the information a female Reaction Officer accompanied by an educator from the school proceeded to the grade nine learners class. When she noticed the Officer enter the classroom she removed a pink pencil case from her bag and placed on the desk of the pupil seated next to her. Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday signed the 2018 Appropriation Bill of the State into law with a total budget size of N1,046,121,181,680.00. The total budget size comprises of N347, 038, 938, 872.00 to be funded from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, and N699, 082, 242,808.00 from the Development Fund for both capital and recurrent expenditure for the year ending 31st December, 2018. The Governor also signed two critical bills into law. They are the Consolidated Transport Sector Bill and the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission Bill. The Transport Sector Law 2018 provides for the development and management of a sustainable transport system in the State, as well as development, management and maintenance of transport infrastructure and facilities within the State. Special Adviser to the Nigerian president on National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), Mrs Maryam Uwais, has revealed that over 80 million out of estimated Nigerian population of over 150 million are poor. However, only about 455,857 of the number of poor people have been captured in the National Social Register (NSP) being used by the Federal Government for its National Cash Transfer Program. Even then, the monthly stipends of N5000.00 is being paid to only 297,973 out of 455,857 identified poor and vulnerable households captured in NSP. Uwais revealed this when briefing the media on the efforts of the President Buhari administration to fight poverty in the country. She also explained that there is a system in place to ensure that only the right set of people benefit from the program. The British Government has reacted to the incessant killing across Nigeria by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Prime Minister, Theresa May, said the British Government was engaging Nigeria’s federal and state governments over the killings. This was part of a letter signed by Angela Almona (Whitehall Nigeria Unit) of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and obtained by Punch. The letter was addressed to Dr Kohol Shadrach Iornem, the Vice President of the Mutual Union of Tiv in the United Kingdom.
