The senator representing Adamawa Northern Senatorial District, Binta Garba, has said the Peoples Democratic Party, in the twilight of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, approached her, as the Chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, to dump the APC. Garba said she was offered over N300m by the PDP so that Governor Jibrilla Bindow, the then candidate of the APC, would not scale through. “The suspension takes effect from today Sunday, The Nigrerian Labour Congress has suspended its ongoing strike. The strike commenced on September 26. The National President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, announced the suspension of the strike at a press conference on Sunday in Abuja. “The suspension takes effect from today Sunday,” he said. The suspension means workers are expected to resume duties on Tuesday as Monday has been declared a public holiday by the federal government to mark the October 1 Independence Day. The workers are demanding a new minimum wage of about N50,000 instead of the current national minimum wage of N18,000. Most state governors as well as proponents of true federalism have, however, argued that states should be allowed to set their own minimum wage especially as many states are barely able to pay the current N18,000 current minimum wage. A member of the House of Representatives, representing Irepodun/Isin Ekiti/Oke Ero constituency of Kwara state, Hon. Funke Adedoyin, is dead. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker passed away in Abuja while treating an ailment suspected to be cancer. A source close to the family said that the deceased had a cancer operation about two years ago, while she had been in and out of the country for medical attention since then. Chairman of House Judiciary Committee and governorship aspirant in Kwara, confirmed that Ms Adedoyin died of cancer. “She had been battling cancer in the past few years,” the lawmaker told Punch. Ms Adedoyin was a daughter of Nigerian industrialist Samuel Adedoyin. She was appointed as health minister by former President Olusegun Obasanjo during his first term between 1999-2003. The deceased was among All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers who defected to the PDP some weeks ago.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has barred political office holders and senior civil servants from participating in the ongoing strike by the organised labour in the country. Umahi, who gave the directive on Friday in a statement he personally signed, also directed that no public office should be closed during the strike. According to the statement, senior civil servants from grade level 12 and above should not for any reason, join the strike as they and all political appointees should be at their duty posts. The governor also condemned the compliance to the strike by the state’s workers in spite of what he called the magnanimity of his administration toward them. Two aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have been involved in an accident. This was disclosed on Friday in a statement signed by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola. Daramola said the air accident occurred during rehearsals for the Independence day celebrations. “I wish to confirm an air incident involving 2 Nigerian Air Force aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the 58th Independence Day Celebrations,” he said. Daramola did not state if the accident was a collision or a crash. Also, he did not explain if any casualty was recorded. Eyewitnesses, however, claim that one person was feared dead in the incident. The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gboyega Oyetola, the winner of the 2018 Osun governorship election. Mr Oyetola was returned as governor-elect on Thursday at the end of a supplementary election which held in seven polling units across four local governments. The APC candidate won six of the seven units amidst allegations of harassment, killings and other forms of malpractice. At the end of the tally of votes, the APC candidate scored a total of 255,505 votes while the PDP candidate scored a total of 255,023 votes. Although Mr Adeleke had led his APC rival with 353 votes at the end of the first round of ballots last Saturday, the table turned the other way after the supplementary votes on Thursday with the APC candidate overtaking and beating the PDP candidate with a total margin of 482 votes. It will be recalled that Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had declared a warning strike starting today (Thursday)over what they called government’s insensitivity to the agitation of the new minimum wage for workers in the country. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday gave a notification to revoke the operating licences of 154 microfinance banks in the country. According to Punch newspaper, six primary mortgage banks and 22 other finance companies would receive similar notification from the apex bank. The CBN said 62 of the microfinance banks had already closed shop; 74 became insolvent; 12 were terminally distressed; while six voluntarily liquidated. The CBN listed the top mortgage banks for revocation as Accord Savings and Loans Limited in Lagos that failed to recapitalise; and Ahocol Savings and Loans Limited in Anambra (state government-owned) that closed shop. Other mortgage banks for revocation are Trans Atlantic Savings and Loans Limited in Bayelsa (state government-owned) that became insolvent; Royal Savings and Loans Limited in Delta State that also closed shop; Amex Savings and Loans Limited in Lagos that failed to recapitalise; and Supreme Savings and Loans Limited also in Lagos that closed

The secondary school student in Kaduna wrote to a male serving corp member teaching in her school – the content of the letter has the student explaining the love she has for the corps member and her reasons for that. The girl named Abubakar Aishat expressed that she could do anything to show that she loved him, who goes by the name, Jide. Nigerian musician, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has raised the alarm over alleged plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the Thursday’s Osun State governorship rerun election. The Iphone Burial! A 25year old Russian woman has been buried below a gravestone depicting her favourite iPhone. Mourners in the oil-rich city of Ufa were amazed to see the huge tombstone erected over Rita Shameeva’s burial plot. It is made from black basalt and bears the Apple symbol on the reverse, and a picture of Shameeva on the front. It was erected by her grieving dad Rais Shameev two years after her death in January 2016 from an unknown cause, say reports. Little is known of Rita except that she was a keen traveller and had friends in Germany. She also loved her smartphone. A “fake mad man” was caught today with some suspicious items that has led to the belief he might be a ritualist. The man was caught today in Elele Alimi in Emohua LGA of Rivers state. He had on him items such as a live snake, a car key, a pack of condom, sweets, voters card, affidavit, a wallet with #3,500 cash, and more. He was caught by local vigilante group led by Commander, Mr Chidi Agi. The man, whose identification card has the name Hu-El Mustapha Al-Musta, was said to have been identified as Mr Obinna by a woman who attended community secondary school with him in the same Elele Alimini years back. The Academic Staff Union of Universities may join the Nigeria Labour Congress in the ongoing industrial action. The Owerri Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Prof Uzo Onyebinama, disclosed this at a press conference at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. While debunking that the strikes were not sponsored by the opposition parties, Onyebinama said the reason of ASUU strike was as a result of the Federal Government’s inability to fulfill the 2009 agreement with the union on the welfare of its members. His statement read in part, “You will recall that the 2009 FGN —ASUU Agreement made provision for the re-negotiation of the Agreement every three (3) years. “Consequently, the first renegotiation of the Agreement should have been in 2012.
