The investigation is sequel to senate’s resolution on a motion by Sen. Biodun Olujimi (PDP- Ekiti) at plenary entitled: “The Growing Trend of Sexual Harassment in the Higher Institutions of Learning: The Case of Monica Osagie”. The senate consequently, mandated its Committees on Tertiary Institutions and TetFund and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters to carry out a full scale investigation of the case. 7 Dead In Ogun Boat Mishap

A boat accident in Ogun State, South-western part of Nigeria has claimed a couple of lives thereby spreading panic.    File Photo   Seven people were reported dead in a boat mishap that occurred mid-waterways between Akere in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun and Apa in Badagary Area of Lagos State.   Nigerian Tribune gathered that the accident occurred on Wednesday morning when the boat said to be conveying passengers numbering about 40 and goods broke into two.   It took the effort of the men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the marine police and some local divers to rescue about 10 lucky passengers   Speaking on the development, the Chairman, Ipokia Local Government Area, Senayon Amos Josu, confirmed the incident but said only four people died in the incident.   Josu said the survivors were taken to the General Hospital in Ipokia for medical treatment.   The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, also confirme

The wages of crime came yesterday for a former governor . A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Gudu, Abuja sentenced former Taraba State Governor Jolly Nyame to 28 years in prison. He was not given an option of fine. Justice Adebukola Banjoko convicted the ex-governor on 27 out of the 41 counts contained in the charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in July 2007. Nyame was governor from 1991 to 1993 and 1999 to 2007. The breakdown of the sentence is as follows: 14 years upon conviction for criminal breach of trust; seven years for receiving gratification; five years for obtaining valuable public properties without consideration, and two years for criminal misappropriation. The judge said the sentences would run concurrently, implying that the ex-governor is to spend 14 years in prison. THE Federal Government has begun moves to dismiss 750,000 striking members of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU). As part of the plan, it has directed governing boards of government-owned hospitals to invoke the provisions of Public Service Rule 030413 on the workers for failing to report for duty. The government also instructed the governing boards to restore services in their various hospitals with immediate effect, saying nobody has the right to shut down any government hospital. The Nation gathered that Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole gave the directive at an emergency meeting with chief medical directors and medical directors of government owned hospitals and their governing boards. The Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has appointed Margaret Omosule as the 12th Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the university. A press release issued on Wednesday in Ile-Ife by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Abiodun Olarewaju, said Mrs Omosule was the Deputy-Registrar and Acting Director, Vice-Chancellor’ s Office, prior to her appointment. The release said Mrs Omosule, a native of Ughelli South Local Government of Delta, holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) (Ed.) In the meeting, crucial 2018 admission guidelines, including the determination of the official 2018 Admission Cut-off Marks for various institutions will be determined. Mr. Fabian Benjamin, the head of Media for JAMB had cautioned institutions that advertised admission into their schools before this meeting, stating that they had breached the constitutional guidelines for admissions. UNIOSUN Shuts Down Over Alleged Lawlessness of Staff Unions

The management of Osun State University, ( UNIOSUN ) Osogbo, has shut down the institution over what it described as lawlessness and endangering of students lives by some staff unions in the school. In a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Gafar Adebayo Sh!ttu on behalf of the management of UNIOSUN, the Governing Council of UNIOSUN approved the closure of the University with immediate effect to avert dangers. He said the closure of the university became necessary because of what he described as notorious activities of some non-teaching staff members under the guise of unionism. “Management wishes to sincerely apologize to parents, guardians and students for any inconveniences that this closure may cause.” the statement reads. FUTA Students Cry Out Over Police Harassment

The students of Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, Ondo State, raised an alarm yesterday over the infringement of their fundamental human rights by the Nigeria Police Force. The Concern for Human Rights(CHR) president, David Belele explained how officers in the state have been harassing the students, he further said the Nigeria police are terrorizing Nigerian youths. While speaking, he explained his previous ordeal with a police officer who threatened to shoot him when he refused to bring out his phone for search. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has debunked the rumour that its database has been H@cked. This came from the Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede during an interactive session with newsmen. He mentuioned that there has been several attempts by individuals to H@ck into its system and gain access to the questions prepared for UTME candidates but none has succeeded. In his words, “As far as JAMB is concerned, I have not found any case of a breakthrough. No matter how clever they think they are, we are ahead of them.” He further stated that while the board would continue to remain proactive in its operations, it would not hesitate to ensure that anyone caught is prosecuted. DAILY POST reports that the Zionists led their self-acclaimed President, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka stormed the Government House as early as 7 am with Biafra flags. The group had earlier vowed to be at the Government House today, Wednesday May 30 for the purpose of declaration of Biafra Republic. Our correspondent reports that upon their arrival at the Government House gate, they were rounded up by security operatives. They marched from the Bissala Road axis to the area. A combined team of security operatives made up of the DSS, anti-terrorism squad, mobile policemen, SARS, among others carried out the operation. Three persons were killed on Monday and Tuesday, by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Gashish and Ropp villages, Kakuruk Ward in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State. Two of the victims identified as Suga Geoffrey Jangwok and Sylvester Ishaya were shot dead in Gashish, on Monday night, and four persons injured while one person was killed on Tuesday morning, in Ropp and three others inflicted gunshots injuries. It was learnt that those killed in Gashish were those returning from their farm at about 6:30p.m. when the Fulani herdsmen laid them ambush and shot two persons death, while among four persons who were injured. They are reportedly receiving treatment at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos. A Nigerian governor has spoken out about how debts and some uncompleted projects nearly drove him out of office.  Abubakar Badaru   The Governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru, on Monday recalled that when he was inaugurated in 2015, he received a voluminous document detailing huge debts and uncompleted capital projects worth N31.3 billion in the state.   “The first day I went through the handover note submitted to me by the then PDP administration, I felt like running away because of the gravity of problems contained in the document,” he said.   Mr. Badaru stated this in an interview with journalists at the government house, Dutse, marking the activities of his third year in office.
