Q. What is NIN?
A. The National Identification Number (NIN) is the unique number which identifies you as a Nigerian and is issued to you upon enrollment by NIMC. It is used to match you with your biometric data and other details in the National Identity Database during verification and authentication.

Q. What is NIMC?
A. National Identity Management Commission is the primary legal institution in Nigeria mandated by law with the sole responsibility for identity management in Nigeria.

Q. How do I register for NIN?
A. You can register in any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you. Kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for a list of all enrollment centers nationwide.

Q. How do I confirm my NIN number?
A. You can check your NIN Slip, it has your 11 Digit Number at the top left corner, on the second row. You can also dial *346# and press 1, please note that you will be charged 20 naira

Q. Am I going to be charged for checking?
A. Yes please, you are going to be charged 20 naira only when you dial *346# then press 1.

Q. Can I do the registration in any MTN office?
A. kindly visit www.nimc.gov.ng for the list of enrolment centers.

Q: I have more than one phone number, how do I link them?
A: Kindly dial *785# using the phone number you wish to link, enter your NIN and submit or dial *785*Your NIN# from the phone number you wish to link. The number will be linked to your NIN automatically. You can also visit https://ift.tt/2WlhMBz or download MyMTN App to submit your NIN details. You can then dial *346# to confirm if it has been linked.

Q. If I try it on my line and I am not registered, will I be charged 20 naira?
A. No please, an error message will pop up on your phone to indicate that the transaction was not successful

Q: Please what is so special about this NIN number?
A: The NIN is used to tie all records about an individual into the National Identity Database and is also used as a valid means of establishing or verifying individual identity

Q. . I have lost my NIN slip, how can I obtain another one?
A. Sorry about the loss of your NIN slip, kindly visit any bank around you, pay a token of N500 through REMITA, provide your Remita Teller to any ERC near you and request for a NIN slip print.

Q: Will my line be blocked if my NIN is not captured?
A: Yes. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications operators to block all lines not paired with NIN Number by December 30th 2020.

Q: I was able to view my NIN number on my bank app, why is MTN charging me N20?
A: This is a billable service as a confirmatory notification will be sent to you upon dialing the code. The USSD code works for all networks.

Q: How will I know if my SIM is already updated with my NIN?
A. Kindly dial *346# and press 1, please note that you will be charged 20 naira. Your NIN will display on the phone.

A: This directive is to all citizens of Nigeria who are telecoms subscribers. Your NIN must be paired with your SIM details.

A: No, you cannot. Everybody is to enroll for their NIN individually. It is a personal Identity Number

5. Q: I get an error when I dial *346# does it work on all networks

A: Yes, the USSD code works for all networks. However, if you have registered for a NIN and you keep getting an error message, please dial your service provider help line. If you are yet to register for NIN please visit any NIMC ECRs (Enrollment Centres) close to you to enroll or visit www.nimc.gov.ng for the list of all enrollment centers nationwide.

6. Q: I dialed *346# and have got my NIN number. How do I link it?
A: If you get an 11- digit number upon dialing *346#, on your line, this means your NIN is attached to your number

7. Q: Will my bank account be blocked if my line is not linked to NIN?
A: No. Only SIM cards/phone lines that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN) will be blocked.
