Minimum Wage: OSUSTECH Workers,AAUA ASUU Join Nationwide Strike
Following the directive from the national body of their unions,workers at the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) Okitipupa have joined the ongoing warning strike.
It will be recalled that Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had declared a warning strike starting today (Thursday)over what they called government’s insensitivity to the agitation of the new minimum wage for workers in the country.
In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor on Thursday morning and obtained by The Politico, the joint action committee of NASU,NAAT and SSANU said they would only resume to work if the strike is suspended.
“The Joint Action Committee of NASU,NAAT,SSANU at her Congress held early today 27th September,2018 has resolved to comply with the directives of our national Secretariat to embark on the ongoing Nationwide strike.
“The entire members of the above named Congress would resume back to work as soon as the strike is suspended or called off,” the letter partly read.
It was signed by the trio of Comrade Peter Akindehinde(NASU Chairman), Comrade Davies Bamigbola( NAAT chairman) and Comrade Dayo Temola( SSANU Chairman).
Also ,a check by our correspondent at the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko(AAUA) revealed that academic activities have been paralyzed in the institution following the ongoing warning strike.
In a chat with The Politico,the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (AAUA) in the university,Dr. Sola Fayose confirmed the compliance of the union to the strike.
